It was March in 2015 when, during a short break of an ongoing hearing, Alexis sent me a one-line message proposing a call. Brief as it was, his call was tremendously encouraging, opening up an opportunity for me to participate in policy-making at the ICC Court, one of the most respected arbitral institutions in the world with its unparalleled expertise and a team of remarkably dedicated Secretariat members. For Alexis, this was an initial step to realising one of the core values he ambitiously pursued throughout his tenure—diversity within the Court and more broadly in the international arbitration community. Having personally experienced the benefits and challenges of diversity, I would like to focus my short remarks on the remarkable accomplishments of Alexis and his Court and the initiatives in the pipeline.
